Being the mother-of-the-bride is a big deal! Make sure you are aware of your duties

Allusion Photography

As a mother, you want your daughter to be happy – and, on her wedding day, you want to make sure she feels like the true princess she is. What are some of your duties as the mother-of-the-bride? What are some of the things you are expected to do before and during the wedding? We have gathered some tips for you – so read on and find out more.

  • Help with the wedding registry. Since your daughter shouldn’t include wedding registry information on the invitations, it is up to you, the groom’s mother and the couple’s close friends to spread the news. This way, guests have the opportunity of buying something the bride and the groom will truly love.
  • Walk her down the aisle. In traditional Christian weddings, the father is the one to “give the bride away”. However, if he cannot be there or if the bride chooses to honor you as well, you might be expected to walk down the aisle with her.
  • Be part of the receiving line. Traditionally, the mother-of-the-bride is the hostess of the wedding – so she is also the first in the receiving line. Be there with a warm smile on your face to help your daughter receive the guests and make them feel truly welcomed!
  • Be a very good friend. You love your daughter more than anyone else in this world – and more than anyone too, you also know what she’s going through. Be her support, her friend and her shoulder to cry on as the big day unfolds – you will both remember these moments as some of the most candid and sentimental ones you have ever had!

Allusion Photography can help you capture precisely these moments: the seconds of wordless emotion that will sprinkle your big day with tears of joy. Contact us, find out more about who we are and hire us for your wedding!

Make sure your wedding reception follows an appropriate timeline

Allusion Photography

Your wedding day is going to be an absolutely unforgettable event in your life. Starting from the moment you open your eyes on the big day and ending with the moment you are back in your hotel room. This day is going to be exciting, exhausting and slightly scary as well.

Creating a thorough wedding reception timeline can help you put all the wedding highlights in the right order and give you some clarity of mind as well – Do you however know the appropriate steps your reception timeline should follow? Read on and find out more.

  • The cocktail hour. As the name suggests, this is the first part of the reception and it will last for approximately one hour. This is the time for you to get away with your photographer and shoot some photos, while your guests indulge in snacks and drinks.
  • The introductions and the cake cutting. This shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes total – and it usually involves mentioning the parents, the wedding party and announcing the entrance of the couple. The intros are usually followed up by the cake cutting. The reason this is after the introductions is so the vendor can then have the cake cut into individual pieces and ready to be served for desert immediately after dinner.  After the cake cutting comes the wedding toasts (which shouldn’t last for more than 10-15 minutes total).
  • The dinner and the party. Once the toasts are over, the first course is served. The dinner itself lasts for about 1 hour or so and it is followed by another 1 and a half hours of dancing. Of course, the timings are approximate, but if you have rented the venue for a very specific number of hours, you should try to stick to a stricter timeline.
  • 1st Dances – The night is usually kicked off by the bride and Grooms first dance followed by the father /daughter and the mother/son dances.
  • The bouquet and garter – The DJ usually saves this for the end of the night.  This is followed up by about 1 hour of dancing and a farewell to the bride and groom.

Be unique when creating your signature wedding cocktails!

Allusion Photography

Your wedding should reflect who you are, what your style is and what your love story is all about. From the colors you choose to the flowers that decorate the Big Day, everything about this event should be about you – and your cocktails make no exception from the rule.

To help you serve excellent cocktails at your wedding (and make your guests happy), we have gathered some of the most delicious and unique ideas right below – so read on and find out more.

  • Popsicle cocktails. Perfect for a summer wedding, popsicle cocktails are fun, unique and really tasty. Basically, any cocktail can be turned into a playful popsicle – so whatever your favorite drink may be, you can definitely pull this off. Your guests will love the idea!
  • Vintage cocktails. Planning a vintage-inspired wedding? Make sure your cocktails are inspired by the old times too! For example, a cocktail inspired by the Prohibition era can be a really tasty surprise for your guests.
  • Craft beers. If you plan on having a more casual wedding, don’t be afraid to replace the more traditional cocktails with beer. Serving a good variety of delicious craft beers is guaranteed to satisfy your guests’ tastes.
  • Ice tea. If you don’t want to serve alcohol at your wedding (or if you want to provide all of your guests with non-alcoholic options too), ice tea is a very good idea. It is delicious, refreshing and it allows you to provide your guests with a wide range of options to choose from.

As the Best Man, make sure you create the best wedding speech!

Allusion Photography

Being the Best Man in a wedding is an amazing experience. On the one hand, you will stand by your friend’s side as he ties the knot (and as he plans the Big Day too). On the other hand, this role will be accompanied by a lot of responsibility.

Of all your tasks as a Best Man, delivering a great wedding speech is one of the most important ones. After all, you are the groom’s honor attendant – and everyone expects you to give a speech that’s funny, emotional and truly honest.

How can you create a wedding speech that will leave everyone smiling? Here are some tips to consider.

  • Don’t procrastinate. Writing a good speech doesn’t just happen overnight, so take your time to write and edit – also take your time to practice it in the mirror as well. Doing this can make the entire difference in the world!
  • Keep it short. In general, wedding speeches shouldn’t be longer than 5 minutes (or even shorter than that, depending on the day-of schedule the bride and groom have created). Stick to being short and sweet and you will definitely nail it!
  • When in doubt, follow the pattern. That white sheet of paper can be quite intimidating, so if you feel lost for words, follow the “classic pattern”: start with an introduction (a joke or a pun), thank the hosts for the event, tell a story about the groom (which shows his qualities, as well as the qualities of his bride) and wrap up the speech with a toast (wishing the couple a happy life together).

Is your friend searching for someone to capture these amazing moments? Tell him to contact Allusion Photography and both he and his bride will be more than happy with our services!

These lighting techniques will create a beautiful atmosphere for your wedding

Allusion Photography

Wedding lighting bears a huge importance when it comes to creating a very beautiful atmosphere for this very special event. What are some of the techniques you should know of before you decide on anything? We have gathered some tips to help you navigate the sometimes confusing lighting lingo – so read on and find out more.

  • Fairy lights or festoon lights. Usually used as interchangeable terms, fairy lights and festoon lights are more or less the same type of lighting – with the exception that the first are usually used indoors, while the latter are used outdoors.
  • Gobo lights. If you want to personalize your wedding with a projected monogram, you are looking for Gobo lights. Unique and modern, this type of lighting works especially with elegant, contemporary weddings.
  • Pattern projections. Want to make a simple wedding venue look more elegant and intricate? Hire someone to project beautiful flowery patterns or arabesques at your wedding. Doing this will instantly change the décor!
  • Up lighting. In general, up lighting refers to colored lights that are arranged in a way that emphasizes different areas of the venue (e.g. the dance floor, the corners of the walls, and so on). With modern technology at your disposal, you can choose pretty much any color you want for your up lighting.
  • Pin spotting. If you want to make your wedding centerpieces really stand out, use pin spotting lighting. This will project a very thin beam of light right through the center of your table, so that it makes the centerpieces look brighter and more elegant.

Searching for a photographer who will know how to capture the magic of the Big Day regardless of what type of lighting you choose? Contact Allusion Photography and we will bring in our experience, our talent and our true creativity!

Have you chosen a date for your wedding yet? Take a look at some lucky days, and days to avoid!

Allusion Photography

Choosing a wedding date is one of the first and foremost important steps in planning a wedding. How to make sure you choose a really lucky date, though? What are some of the myths and superstitions surrounding wedding dates? We have gathered them right below – so read on if you need a bit of inspiration.

  • According to the Jewish tradition, Tuesdays are considered to be suspicious when it comes to weddings. Furthermore, they also say that a wedding should take part after a new moon, which will also grant luck and blessings to the newlyweds.
  • In astrology, the beginning of the month is also considered to be quite lucky – so you might want to heed this tip of advice and settle yourself wherever you feel best.
  • 8th of August. Planning a summer wedding? Have it on the 8th of August, then! In some Asian traditions, the number “8” is associated with prosperity and good fortune. So, August 8th may be a great choice for your wedding date as well.
  • Depending on your religious denomination, you might not be allowed to have your wedding during certain religious holidays (or the fasting period preceding them). Before you type out the Save the Date cards, make sure to double check with your ceremony officiant and see for sure.
  • While Christmas is considered the most wonderful time of the year, and 4th of July is full of excitement, they may not be the best days to choose for your wedding. With many holidays throughout the year, choosing your wedding date around them may be better than on them, as many people usually have plans already made.
  • Last, but not least, don’t choose a wedding date because someone else suggests it, but because it makes sense to you and your love story. Regardless of what date you choose, know that your loved ones and friends will be there to enjoy your big day.

Do you know how to breakdown your wedding budget? Take a look:

Allusion Photography

We may not like this, but money does make the world go around. And while they have no connection whatsoever with true love, the truth is that you will need money to plan the perfect big day. This is precisely why planning a suitable wedding budget is so important – especially when you want to make sure that your dream wedding doesn’t come with a high cost for your finances in the first year(s) of marriage.

How do you do it? How do you plan and breakdown your wedding budget? Here are some tips to consider:

  • First and foremost, understand that different locations practice different prices. It may be shocking, but the difference between a wedding in one part of the US and one in another part of the country can go as high as a few tens of thousands of dollars. Sure, it depends on what you want for the big day, but it is more than important that you research prices at your chosen location before you do anything else.
  • Also, you should know that while there are no standard ways to breakdown the budget, there are some expectations you should have. For instance, the venue will most likely cost something around 40-50% of the entire wedding budget. Flowers will cost 10%, music will cost 5-10%, a planner will cost 10-15%, and so on.
  • It is also extremely important that you leave some “cushion” in your budget as well. In general, it is advisable that you leave at least 5-10% of your total wedding budget for unexpected expenses (such as having to pay extra hours for your band or DJ, for example).
  • Here’s a basic breakdown of what you can expect to pay:

Reception: 48-50 percent

Ceremony: 2-3 percent

Attire: 8-10 percent

Flowers: 8-10 percent

Entertainment/Music: 8-10 percent

Photography/Videography: 10-12 percent

Stationery: 2-3 percent

Wedding Rings: 2-3 percent

Parking/Transportation: 2-3 percent

Gifts: 2-3 percent

Miscellaneous: 8 percent

  • To avoid stress, allot 5 percent of your budget for a “just-in-case” fund.
  • Use sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot to help. They both have free budget calculator and forms to make this process a stress free one.

Make sure your groomsmen look sharp on the big day by knowing how to dress them!

Allusion Photograghy

Your groomsmen are some of the most important people at the wedding – and you will definitely want them to look really great (and feel equally amazing too). How do you do that, though? How do you make sure your groomsmen look sharp on the big day?

We have gathered some tips to help you dress them really well – so read on and find out more.

  • Mismatched is OK. Long-gone are the days when everything at a wedding had to match 100%. Same as bridesmaids’ dresses, the groomsmen’s attires don’t have to match either. In fact, they will look a lot more stylish this way.

  • Mismatched, but with style. If you decide to allow your groomsmen to wear mismatched suits or tuxedoes, please make sure you do give them some rules at least. For example, sticking to three colors or simply to variations of the same color will be a very good idea.

  • Different silhouettes for different bodies. Your groomsmen look different – so it is only natural that you allow them to dress in tuxedoes or suits that are different too. This will help them choose something that suits their bodies and their personal style – and, consequently, it will also help them feel better throughout the entire wedding day.

  • Coordinated details. If you want your groomsmen to look great together even with mismatched attires, focus on coordinating the details – such as the lapels, the bow-ties, the shoes or the boutonnieres, for example.

Do you know how to choose your bridesmaids for your wedding?

Allusion Photography - APPROVED

Choosing the wedding party is one of the most important Big Day-related tasks. While most brides-to-be have many friends, making the choice for the bridal party can honestly be a daunting ordeal.

How to choose your bridesmaids? How to make sure nobody’s feelings get hurt? Even more, how to make sure the ladies standing by your side at the altar are happy? We have gathered some tips for you – so read on and find out more.

  • Whatever you do, remember that this is your Not your mom’s, not his aunt’s and definitely not your sister’s. It is your wedding and you choose who your bridesmaids are. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do when it comes to this.
  • You might actually want to include in-laws. Yes, you read that right. You may not be very close to them right now, but you will be. Soon enough, they will be part of your family and you will be part of theirs. And while friends may move to other states and relationships may cool, family will always be there – including in-laws. Start on the right foot by including your future sister(s)-in-law in the wedding party.
  • Also, you might not be able to include everyone you want. We mean this. You may have lots of friends who might not make it to the wedding party, but that doesn’t mean you cannot assign them important tasks for the Big Day. Some of them may play a song or have a reading during your wedding ceremony or reception. Others may have a beautiful toast to dedicate to you and your spouse. Whatever you choose for them, it will surely make them feel really special in your life!

Your guests will surely adore these thoughtful wedding ideas

Allusion Photography

None of your guests will come to the wedding with the sole purpose of eating, drinking and dancing. They will be there because they care about you and because they are genuinely happy for the huge step you’re making in your life. They will be there to celebrate your love, your commitment and your beautiful story!

It is precisely for this reason that you will also want them to have the time of their lives while at your wedding. How to do it? How to ensure they leave the Big Day with some really nice memories in their “luggage”? We have gathered some really thoughtful ideas to inspire you – so read on and find out more.

  • The games. Regardless of what age your guests may be, they will definitely love a good, old-fashioned game. Plan some wedding-themed Mad Libs or even a wedding piñata, bring in some oversized board games or organize some drinking/social games to make sure all of your guests have fun – it will be worth all the effort, trust us!
  • The food and the drinks. You don’t need the most expensive caviar and wine brought from France to make people happy. You need fresh, well-cooked and good-looking food that’s aplenty. From mac and cheese variations to tomato soup and grilled cheese shots, there’s a myriad of delicious and budget-friendly foods you can include in the menu, so don’t be afraid to get a little creative with it!
  • Welcome baskets. If you have out-of-town guests, make sure to greet them with some thoughtful welcome baskets. Include a plan of the wedding, a map of the location and some nice treats (such as cookies, lip balm and other small items guests will love).
